Connections between manipulative's and ISTE Standards:
There are many connections between manipulative's and the ISTE standards. Some of the standards that apply: Students will demonstrate a sound understanding of the operation of technology systems, when they do manipulative's such as online games or to use the computer to research. Students will be able to develop a positive attitude about technology because they will enjoy using the games and different manipulatives that are found on the computer, and will therefore be more prone to develop lifelong learning on computers. Another standard that applies is using technology problem-solving and decision making tools. When playing online games to increase reading skills for instance, students will definitely have to make decisions and solve problems to win the game, so this standard applies also. These are just a few connections that seem to apply to the ISTE Standards, I'm sure many of the other ones work just as well.

Manipulative Hotlinks:
http://www.learningthings.com/
This is a good link because it gives teachers many different options to choose from. There are complete grade level curriculum sets, foreign language Cd's, hands on activities such as computer training, Arts & Crafts, History, Language Arts collections and so on. Teachers can buy the activity set they want and use it for a variety of different lesson plans.
http://pbskids.org/zoom/activities/sci/
This link is nice for Science teachers because it displays a lot of different experiments that teachers or students can perform. If a teacher needs an experiment to do about engineering, using the five senses, force & energy, sound, water, structure and so on, this is a very good site to be referred to.
http://resources.kaboose.com/games/read1.html
This last site is good for teachers who are involved with Language Arts and Reading. This website includes online games that students can play to improve their reading skills. It is a fun way for students to become engaged in a learning or writing.
*All of these manipulatives can be used in the classroom to help students learn the required standards for each lesson. I tried to find a variety of different manipulative's; activities, online games and experiments that differ from normal textbook curriculum. These manipulative's are fun and can be used to engage students of all ages.

Reflection #2
I am pretty comfortable with blogging. I think this is a good way for us to be able to post reflections and see what page we're all on. I don't know a whole lot about this, but like Julie said I can post messages and I know how to comment on others messages. I hope to learn more about it.

I thought I knew a lot about technology before coming to IU but when I got here I had no idea how much stuff there was. I think that my high school was not that technologically advanced, because I had never even done a power point presentation until my Sophomore year of college. I am so excited to take this course and learn more about technology in general. It was really interesting already learning about all of the cool technology teachers can use in there classrooms. The interactive white board I think is amazing, and also the video conferencing. When the video conferencing was first brought up, I thought I would not like it at all. I felt like it took away from field trips and actually getting out of the classroom. Now though i realize that there are so many amazing things that can be done with it, and they can show students things they would have never been able to see otherwise. I'm really looking forward to the rest of the semester!

Reflection #2
So far my experience with using the blog has been the minimum. I am able to creat a post and write comments back to posts but anything further than that, I'm not sure of. Once I get the hang of it I think it will be a good program for us to communicate back and forth with ease. I would like to get more in depth with using blog so everyone is aware of all the cool things you might be able to do besides post reflections. I am enjoying creating our own personal e-portfolio because we didn't have to worry about creating buttons and everything is layed out for us in advance. I also enjoy making websites but it depends on which software program we use to create them. Some can be very complicated and only causes frustration but other than that websites give you the chance to use your own creativity. Are we suppose to be writing all of our reflection on our team blog from here on out? and how is the teacher able to know if we posted them or not to get our points?

Hey Girls,
Over the past couple of years I have gained more experience with technology than I have my whole life. I am in the process of getting a minor in technology through the education department which in turn has taught me alot. We've had the opportunity for an entire year to join a program called 'To The Bell and Beyond' where we went to several elementary schools and Bloomington North High School to teach technology to their students. This was a very grueling task but in the end it was very rewarding for both the students and I and we all learned so much from it. The technology that I have the best experience with are the following: powerpoint, word, excel, internet, google, email, audacity, garageband, cell phones, digital cameras and video cameras, educational software, frontpage, creating webpages, interactive whiteboard and many more. Although I have had lots of experience, there is still lots that is needed to be learned. During 'The Bell and Beyond' we focused more on the students learning software programs and the hardware and didn't really have much of a chance to implement other subjects into their technology activities. I would really like to learn more about manipulatives so I have a better insight on how technology is able to be intergrated into the curriculum more in my future classroom.
